The world of robotics is set to take center stage next week at RoboBusiness September 23-24 in San Jose. Among the seven conference tracks, 40 sessions and 100+ robots and solutions are four standout keynotes that can’t be missed.

Robert High will open RoboBusiness with a presentation on “The Emerging Era of Embodied Cognitive Computing.” High is an IBM Fellow and Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of the IBM Watson Group. The era of cognitive computing has emerged and High will explore the ways in which embodiment with anthropomorphic robots can make cognitive systems yield even more utility, bringing us to the next technology frontier.

Following High is “Robots in the IoT Landscape,” sponsored by CSIRO and presented by Dr. Elliot Duff, Research Director of CSIRO Data61, and Michael Garrod, Chief Technology Officer of NPC Robotics. Duff currently leads the Autonomous Systems Program while Garrod leads NPC Robotics’ specialist division: BlackDog Robotics. The Internet of Things (IoT) is boosting productivity, safety and efficiency for industries, economy and government. Duff and Garrod will address the challenge of transforming the way we collect, link and act on this type of data utilizing robotics.

On September 24, Dr. Claudia Lehmann, Executive Director of the Center for Leading Innovation and Cooperation at the HHL Leipzig Graduate School of Management will open the event. The fourth wave of industrial advancement is upon us and will allow companies of all sizes to interconnect sensors, autonomous robots, intelligent machines, workers and real-time tracking systems to radically change their production capabilities. Sponsored by Aethon, Lehmann will address the crossroads we’ve reached: “Industry 4.0 - Moving From ‘What’ to ‘How’.”

The final keynote of RoboBusiness belongs to Ray Kurzweil, Inventor, Author and Futurist. Called “the restless genius” by The Wall Street Journal and “the ultimate thinking machine” by Forbes, Kurzweil will deliver a keynote presentation on “The Coming Merger of Robots and Biology.” A Director of Engineering at Google and Co-Founder and Chancellor of Singularity University, Kurzweil is the recipient of the National Medal of Technology and is an inductee into the National Inventors Hall of Fame.
