Energid Technologies Licenses Actin Robotics Software to Kumaraguru College of Technology
Energid Technologies has licensed its Actin(TM) toolkit to the Kumaraguru College of Technology (KCT) in Coimbatore, India. Actin is world-class software for controlling and simulating complex robotic mechanisms with up to 100 or more independent moving parts. It will be used at KCT by both faculty researchers and students.
The Mechatronics Engineering Department at KCT is establishing a new laboratory for advanced robotics training and research. Mechatronics Engineering faculty members carry out research in the design and development of robotics systems. To assist in the teaching and research programs, its faculty and research scholars are currently exploring the areas of bi-pedal and multi-legged walking robots and intelligent control and trajectory optimization.
Kumaraguru College of Technology is pleased to purchase 10 licenses of Actin robotics software,” said Dr. Joseph V. Thanikal, Principal of KCT. “We hope that this software will enhance our capabilities for advanced robotics training and research.”
The Actin toolkit provides libraries for Windows and Linux platforms that robotics developers can use to quickly create complex, intelligent control systems. For mechanisms with many moving parts, Actin takes advantage of extra degrees of freedom to produce intelligent robotic motion, including collision avoidance, joint limit avoidance, minimum motion, and strength optimization. Through a configurable object-oriented design, Actin applies to virtually all robot types, including mobile robots, branching robots, and robots with self-connections.
“We are thrilled to be able to provide industrial-level software tools to robotics students and faculty at KCT,” said James English, Chief Technical Officer for Energid Technologies. “We are proud to contribute to the world robotics community, within which India is a growing force-and we hope to hire some of the graduating engineers.”
Undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty researchers at KCT will use Actin to create advanced mathematical algorithms for setting robot joint positions and rates to achieve specified hand and foot motion. Actin will enable the solution of complex nonlinear differential equations and the implementation of control solutions for real-time operation. KCT students and faculty will also have access to digital physics simulations to model and visualize how innovative robot designs will behave.
“KCT students will have the most powerful tools available to explore new dimensions in robotics and will be limited only by their imagination,” said Jayakrishnan T, Director of Energid Technologies India, headquartered in Cochin.
