iRobot recently earned a number four ranking in the Boston Globe’s annual list of top-rated Massachusetts companies. Three other companies, Clean Harbors, Analog Devices, and IPG Photonics, earned a higher place on the technologically heavy list.

This year, companies that made the Globe 100 list were “being honored for business acheivements that typically took place outside the spotlight,” the newspapers' editors noted in a story about yearly rankings.

However, the editors singled out the Bedford, Mass., firm which is involved in defense work as well as in cleanup efforts following the Gulf oil spill and the Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster, in one respect, noting that: “Among all the technology companies crowded onto this year’s top 10, perhaps only iRobot Corp. …offers products with retail sizzle. It makes robots that are widely recognized both for tackling domestic chores.”
