Spykee the WiFi spy robot, this year’s most unique tech toy, makes its first public appearance at Digital Life at New York City’s Javits Center. Developed by Meccano who manufactures the Erector brand, a leader in toy construction sets for almost 100 years, Spykee is the world’s first WiFi robot that you build and can control from anywhere in the world via the Internet and a WiFi signal.

Spykee is a make-it-yourself robot that comes as a kit that can be built into any one of three different models: Robot, Scorpion or Moon Rover vehicle. The completed robot measures 1 ¼ feet high and 4.4 lbs. Spykee features a digital video camera, digital music player, VoIP phone, microphone, loudspeaker, special light and sound effects and two motors that allow him to move in any direction. Whether it’s, spying on your sister, listening in on a conversation, remotely shooing your dog off the sofa, taking pictures, recording video, or alerting you to home intruders, Spykee can do it all!

The robot’s computer-based interface enables remote operation of Spykee from any computer with Internet access. At Spykee’s end, the robot needs to be within 328 feet (optimal) of a computer’s WiFi signal. Via their computer screen, users have a clear view of what Spykee sees through its Web cam as it moves about. The robot’s unique Internet and WiFi capabilities enable users to view what is happening in real time, and even talk over Spykee’s VoIP phone regardless of where they might be, as long as they have Internet access. The robot also has a built-in digital music player that is compatible with MP3 files.

In addition, Spykee features mobile video surveillance and a motion-sensitive alarm that can detect intruders and even snap a digital photo and email it to the registered user.

“Spykee is a revolutionary new robot that takes the world of traditional toy construction sets to new heights of sophisticated play,” said Jeff Roberts, Erector Vice President Erector/Specialty. “Erector is thrilled to be expanding on its storied product line in order to create the types of play experiences that children and adults expect in 21st century toys.”

Spykee has 210+ parts/compatible with all Erector parts instructions, tools, 9.6v – 9,6V NiMH battery with recharging station included. PC requirements: Windows 2000 SP5, Windows XP SP2 with .net framework 2.0. Mac Requirement: From Mac OSX 10.4 Tiger (with system for Core videos).

Spykee will be available in retail, online, and specialty toy outlets this holiday season for children 8+ with a suggested retail price of $299.
