The Robotics Event of the Year!
Industry pioneers and business executives came together to advance the commercialization of robotics at the RoboBusiness Leadership Summit held Nov. 2-3 in Boston. In this video Dan Kara, founder of RoboBusiness and Robotics Trends, and this year’s conference chairman, describes how attendees benefit from this premier event in a conversation with Rich Erb, managing director of Robotics Trends.
The Quest for the Automated Hospital
“You really need to develop a whole product solution—hardware, software, UI, interfaces, and process redesign—with a consideration for what problem you are really trying to solve.” —Aldo Zini
A New Take on Autonomy
Getting large teams of robots to collaborate is the work of Dr Regis Vincent, who envisions applications that include mapping nuclear contamination.
Human and Robot ‘Colleagues’ in Manufacturing
What obstacles remain for robots to work alongside humans in industrial settings, and how far have we come in eliminating those challenges? Dr. Roland Menassa answers these and other questions in his presentation at the RoboBusiness summit November 2-3 in Boston.

Customized algorithms in high-performance, digital motion control modules give customers precise control making them ideal for electronic and test assembly applications.

ACS Motion Control, an international manufacturer of advanced multi-axis motion controllers, machine control systems and integrated control modules, has designed high-performance motion control modules for electronic and test assembly applications. ACS’ SPiiPlus Series and MC4U Series motion controllers combine high velocities of meters per second with sub-micron resolution using Sin-Cos multipliers for optimal accuracy.  All ACS Motion Control products provide servo control algorithm execution at a fixed rate of 20kHz for each axis.  Proprietary techniques, such as a true third-order motion profile, allow ACS motion controllers to significantly reduce settling time and vibration, maximizing the throughput of the system.

“Ideal for electronic and test assembly applications, our high-performance, all digital motion control modules provide wide bandwidth, while delivering exceptional dynamic tracking, fast settling and excellent smoothness at low and high velocities,” said Evan Reed, ACS Vice President.  “Regardless of the complexity of the application, ACS has a motion control module that provides the precise control required.”

ACS motion controllers offer distributed multi-processor control architecture that guarantee high-performance motion. The controllers can change motion profiles on-the-fly based on vision sensor input.

ACS motion controllers can also provide sub-nanometer position interpolation of sin-cos encoder feedback.  Advanced, flexible and easy to adjust PIV control algorithms and filters that can be customized to address special needs. Moreover, with a unique Frequency Response Function (FRF) analysis and filter design tool, users can quantify system bandwidth and stability by calculating and presenting the phase and gain margins.

All ACS motion controllers feature a powerful software environment that includes an extensive tool suite to shorten machine development cycles and time-to-market deployment. Optimized for motion control applications, ACS’ software tools provide easy setup, tuning and programming and application simulation.  The software enables the implementation of highly complex motion-time-event sequences with accurate positioning and timing.  In addition, up to ten programs can run simultaneously with multiple interactions and synchronized processes.

The PLC Open compliant control software is designed to support the
IEC61131-3 programming language and allows users to program using any of the five languages in addition to ACSPL+.  The software provides fully variable mapping that enables flexible bi-directional interfacing, mutual synchronization, and functionality exchange between
ACSPL+ and IEC 61131-3 programs. The addition of full CANOpen
support allows SPiiPlus motion controllers to be configured as a CANOpen Master, according to the DS-402 specification, and control up to 64 nodes of motion or I/O.  The free motion simulator can be downloaded at http://www.acsmotioncontrol.com
