The key innovation underlying Barrett Technology’s Puck drive-electronics module for brushless motors will be awarded a United States Patent today under U.S. Patent No. 7,854,631.
According to intellectual property consultancy Vern Maine & Associates, “There are many complex legal and technical requirements that must be fulfilled in order to obtain not only an issued patent, but a valuable patent that includes broad claims and is immune from defects or serious limitations.”
“The prosecution of this patent took a major effort, but the patent is much stronger for it,” says Barrett Technology CEO and Founder Bill Townsend. “With this invention, we envision a time when most small machines with brushless motors will use the Puck in some shape or form.”
According to Neil Singer, founder and CEO of Convolve, Inc. in Armonk, N.Y., “This patent is extraordinarily broad and will have implications across the motion-control industry.”
