Revell Selects SolidWorks Software for 3D CAD Technology of VEXplorer System

Revell, in conjunction with Innovation First, has teamed with SolidWorks Corporation, the leader in 3D CAD technology, as its software provider for the company’s VEXplorer robotics system. The partnership means that with every purchase of VEXplorer, users will also recieve a copy of the SolidWorks Student Design Kit, which features the same technology used by Innovation First to design VEXplorer. The software offers an educational experience enabling users to download hundreds of VEXplorer CAD parts to manipulate and create a customized VEXplorer robot.

“Selecting SolidWorks as a partner was easy. We recognize the company’s ability to create software products that give users the freedom to focus on design, not software,” said Mike Brezette, Revell marketing vice president. “This is exactly what novice inventors and robotics fanatics alike want to spend their time on.”

VEXplorer features a “Spycam,” a claw and all-terrain wheels, and has over 300 parts allowing for individualized design and endless configurations. The radio-controlled system will be available at most toy and discount merchandise retailers, select consumer electronics retailers, hobby stores and online beginning Fall 2007, at a suggested retail price of $199.

“Revell continues to raise the bar for the consumer robotics industry by providing an opportunity for inventors of all skill levels to educate themselves and further develop their CAD abilities,” said Marie Planchard, SolidWorks Corporation Director of Education. “We’re thrilled that one of our customers is sharing their enthusiasm for both the software and innovation with the robotics community. We look forward to seeing all the unique VEXplorer designs created through this unique partnership.”
