Beginning Saturday, April 1, 2006, robotics enthusiasts can place an advance order to guarantee receipt of one of the highly anticipated new LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT sets when they release in August.

A limited quantity of LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT robotics toolsets will be available for pre-order through participating online toy, discount merchandise and consumer electronics retailers, while supplies last, at the suggested retail price of $249.99 (USD).

Confirmed online retailers participating in the pre-sell program include: LEGOshop.com, toysrus.com/amazon.com, target.com, walmart.com, compusa.com, etoys.com, bn.com, fao.com, discoverystore.com, frys.com and mindware.com. Others may be confirmed by April 1.

“Since it was announced at Consumer Electronics Show in January, consumer buzz and retailer demand for MINDSTORMS NXT has been overwhelming,” said Joanna Gale, LEGO MINDSTORMS brand manager. “Because we are thrilled that the community has expressed such early interest in being part of the next generation of LEGO consumer robotics, our online pre-sales program provides our most enthusiastic fans access to the first units to roll off of the production line.”

LEGO MINDSTORMS NXT is a robotics toolset that provides endless opportunities for armchair inventors, robotics fanatics and LEGO builders ages 10 and older to construct and program robots that do what they want. Building upon the success of the globally-renowned Robotics Invention System, the next generation of LEGO MINDSTORMS makes it quicker and easier for robot creators to build and program a working robot in just 30 minutes. Simultaneously, new technologies and expanded sensor capabilities add a level of sophistication to excite and challenge more experienced robot creators.
