The Future of Service Robotics - Light-Weight Arms (LWA)
Since the PowerCube modules were introduced in 1994, the name amtec robotics has come to stand for innovative, mechatronic components. These modular products have established themselves all over the world as the standard for applied research in modern automation and robotics.
Setting the standard in service and personnel robotics – the market of the future – amtec robotics from Berlin presents the LWA light-weight arm with PowerCube technology. The weight-optimised structure of the arm is basically achieved by the use of the latest Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) materials, which also ensure high rigidity.
The human-like 7 DOF light-weight arm is extremely versatile for numerous applications, and is suitable for the most varied fields in robotics: inspection systems, service robotics, man-machine interaction and use on mobile platforms are just some of its possible uses.
Integrated and open: thanks to the use of hollow drives in the interior of the light-weight arm, all wiring out to the pan-tilt unit, or “wrist”, is done internally. There are no visible cables and no interfering contours! The internally routed CAN bus and the open software architecture means that every kind of terminal device can be connected to and operated from the pan-tilt unit of the arm. Amtec robotics offers various possible combinations as standard, depending on the requirements of the application: from the servo-electric pan-tilt unit PW through the 2-finger parallel gripper PG to the force-torque sensor FTC or servo-electric gripping hand SGH.
For maximum flexibility, the light-weight arm can also be battery-operated. Control is done directly via PC or notebook (PCI or USB interface) – an external robot controller is not required.
As a competent partner, amtec robotics has been part of the SCHUNK group since 2003. The innovative technology of the PowerCube modules already forms the basis of numerous applications in the fields of measuring and testing robotics, quality assurance, laboratory automation, sensor systems, service robotics and flexible robot technology.
