Delphi Coast-to-CoastRoadrunner, a self-driving car developed by Delphi Automotive, completed an epic 3,500-mile trip from San Francisco, California to New York, in March 2015, setting the North American record for longest drive by a driverless car.
Modeled after a 2014 Audi SQ5, the car features six long-range radars, four short-range radars, three vision-based cameras, six lidars, a localization system, intelligent software algorithms and a full suite of Advanced Drive Assistance Systems.
While most of the journey took place on highways - thereby enabling the car to avoid too many of the awkward and complicated encounters that are so common on crowded city streets - it was a record-breaking and massively impressive feat.
