Google Self-Driving Car Accident

Everyday journeys can become epic unexpectedly and for all the wrong reasons, such as when one of Google's autonomous Lexus RX's was involved in a slow-motion crash with a city bus in California.

Surveillance video from inside the bus shows the outline of the white SUV glancing off the right side of the bus, followed by surprised bus driver stopping and getting out to inspect the damage. The damage was minor – the bus was traveling at 15 MPH, while the SUV was moving at 2 MPH - but the story spread quickly.

According to Google, the self-driving car predicted the bus would yield as it was ahead of the bus in traffic: “Unfortunately, all these assumptions led us to the same spot in the lane at the same time. This type of misunderstanding happens between human drivers on the road every day.”

Yes, but without the eyes of the world looking on.
