RE2, Inc., a leading developer of intelligent modular manipulation systems, announced today that it has hired Dr. Patrick Rowe as the Vice President of Research and Development. In this role, Dr. Rowe is responsible for overseeing the technical direction of RE2’s robotics research and development projects, generating new business opportunities, and identifying new avenues of technology development to continue the growth of RE2.

Dr. Rowe has over fifteen years of practical experience in all applications of field and ground robotics. His specific areas of expertise include unmanned ground vehicle navigation and path planning, sensor processing, computer vision, robotic manipulation and control, and overall system integration of complete robotic vehicles.

“Dr. Rowe’s extensive robotics expertise, successful track record with winning SBIR and other robotics programs, and technical leadership in the unmanned systems industry, make him the ideal person to lead RE2’s research and development efforts,” stated Jorgen Pedersen, president and chief executive officer of RE2, Inc. “We are confident that Patrick will help to continue RE2’s history of innovative robotics technologies while expanding our technical capabilities and growing the business.”

Before joining RE2, Dr. Rowe was a Senior Research Scientist with Applied Perception, Inc., now a subsidiary of Foster-Miller, and a Commercialization Specialist at Carnegie Mellon’s National Robotics Engineering Center. In both of his previous positions, Dr. Rowe has successfully proposed and led numerous multi-million dollar robotics projects for both government and commercial customers. These projects include rescuing wounded soldiers from the battlefield, developing interchangeable payloads for small robot platforms, implementing user interfaces for multi-vehicle command and control, designing automated forklifts, and researching core technologies for autonomous excavation equipment.

Dr. Rowe holds five patents and is the recipient of the 2006 U.S. Army Quality Award for the Small Business Innovation Research program. He received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and his Ph.D. in Robotics from Carnegie Mellon University.
