Organized by SYROBO, the French Union of Service Robotics, INNOROBO, the first European summit dedicated to service robotics and innovation within the robotics field, brought together companies, researchers, engineers, and other industry experts for three days last month.

Some 80 exhibitors, representing nine countries, were present at the event, including a large delegation from 12 Korean companies, who were the event’s guests of honor. The gathering, which drew nearly 10,000 visitors, illustrated the richness, diversity, and innovation in the worldwide service robotics market, which is expected to reach more than $100 billion by 2020, according to the International Federation of Robotics, a global trade group.

More than 100 robots were demonstrated during the event—nearly one third made their European debut—which was covered by 150 journalists.

The various niches within service robotics—among them personal robotics, health robotics, education robotics, game robotics, transport robotics, and personal assistance robotics—were the focus of individual conferences and presentations.

Also this year, Colin Angle, founder of iRobot and a keynote speaker at INNOROBO, received an award.
