Developer of robot platforms and autonomous foundations offers service-robot technician training curriculum supporting service jobs critical to robot industry growth.

MobileRobots Inc announced the first service-robot technician training curriculum designed especially for technical and career colleges. The program teaches students to customize robot applications and to install and maintain robots.

Unlike older industrial robot arms that perform repetitive tasks inside protective laser curtains, service robots interact with people in natural environments.

Says William Kennedy, PhD, curriculum author, “Students need jobs with a future, and the mobile robot industry needs technicians. Tens of thousands of people make a living customizing and servicing PCs and software. Unless technical schools train people to customize and service robots, the robot revolution won’t happen.”

Dr. Kennedy has informed the public about technological advances for decades: first, as a lecturer in computer skills, next as Editor-in-Chief of A+ Publishing, SunWorld and other PC magazines, then as co-author of O’Reilly & Associates bestselling “HTML/XML: The Definitive Guide.” Kennedy co-designed popular Pioneer robots and worked on some of the first autonomous service robots in the world.

MobileRobots Inc’s robot technician curriculum helps professors prepare students to build an actual application and install it in the culminating project for professional certification. Students learn skills to service robot applications of many types. The curriculum includes student instructional and reference materials, teacher’s guide, autonomous robot base and software. It complements engineering, computer technology, networking and media communications programs.

The program culminates in actual robot installation at a local site, chosen with help from MobileRobots Inc. If students successfully install the robot, they earn Certified MobileRobots Installation and Service Provider (CMISP) certification. If customers purchase the demonstration applications, both school and faculty member share the proceeds.

The Robot Technician Training Curriculum can be leased or purchased from MobileRobots Inc. Leasing and educational discounts are available to all schools. For more information, contact: , +1-603-881-7960 x108, http://www.mobilerobots.com/Robot_Technician_Training.html.
