Robotics Trends announced that Dr. Robin Murphy, Director of the Center for Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue of Texas A&M University, will present a keynote address on the topic of robot-assisted search and rescue for the inaugural Robotics Summit Virtual Conference & Exposition, to be held June 16, 2010 (see http://www.robovirtualevents.com for details). The first conference in the series will focus on autonomy, mobility and navigation.
As a founder of the field of search-and-rescue robotics, Dr. Murphy has employed ground, air, and sea robots at a number of disaster sites including the World Trade Center (2001), La Conchita, CA, mudslides (2005), Hurricanes Charley (2004), Dennis (2005), Katrina (2005), and Wilma (2005), the Newmont Midas (2007) and Crandall Canyon (2007) mine disasters, and the Berkman Plaza II parking garage collapse (2007) and subsequent forensic structural investigation (2008).
“Robin Murphy is a pioneer in the field of rescue robotics. We feel that her experience and knowledge in this critical field will be extremely valuable to our attendees. We are thrilled that she will be participating as keynote presenter,” said Dan Kara, President of Robotics Trends.
Robin Murphy notes, “I have been working with first responders since 1999 and every response is humbling- we learn something else that wasn’t obvious in the lab. I am excited to have the opportunity to take what we’ve seen in the field- and confirmed in the lab- and share it with the larger robotics community. I hope my keynote will help keep the tremendous momentum in innovation in robotics going and get this technology to the Public Sector.”
