ABB Robotics to provide A123 Systems with 15 robots for the assembly and manufacturing of high-power lithium-ion battery modules and packs. ABB Robotics, a supplier of industrial robots, has reached an agreement with A123 Systems to provide robotic automation systems for the assembly and manufacturing of lithium-ion battery modules and packs. A123 Systems, headquartered in Watertown, Massachusetts, develops, manufactures and supplies high-power lithium ion batteries designed to deliver a new combination of power, safety and life. A123 Systems selected ABB to design and build the automation systems based on ABB’s overall company strength, ongoing involvement in advanced battery applications in the power industry, and widespread global presence. ABB and Vincennes University Partner for Robotic Training at the College’s New $9 Million Facility

Collaboration includes robots and related work cells, software and controllers donated to VU to expose students cutting edge robotic technology. ABB Robotics, a leading supplier of industrial robots, and Vincennes University (VU) have formed a partnership that will greatly enhance the Indiana college’s vocational and technical robotic training, and provide ABB with an authorized training facility in the central Midwest. The partnership includes the installation of 29 ABB robots and related work cells, software and controllers into VU’s new $9 million industrial training facility, the Indiana Center for Applied Technology (ICAT), which opened in March 2009.
